In 2004, he co-curated the first-ever exhibition in the United States on Chinese contemporary photography with Wu Hung of the University of Chicago, titled 'China Contemporary Photography - Between Past and Present.' He has since curated exhibitions such as "Atta Kim: On-Air" (2006), "Shanghai Kaleidoscope" (2008), "Heavy Light: Recent Photography and Video from Japan" (2008), "H20: Art on the Horizon of Nature" (2010), and "Wang Qingsong: When Worlds Collide" (2011). He is also a member of the curator team for ICP Contemporary Photography and Video, published every three years. Additionally, he teaches photo history and criticism as a visiting professor at New York University and Barnard College.

She obtained her bachelor's degree from Meiji Gakuin and a Ph.D. in photography from Columbia University in Chicago.

She worked as a curator at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography from 1989 to 2002 and at the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art from 2002 to 2006.

Born in Jeju, he graduated from Chung-Ang University and its graduate school with a major in painting. In 1986, he obtained a Ph.D. in art history from Paris 1 University (Panthéon-Sorbonne) after a 10-year stay in Paris. He has served as the commissioner for the São Paulo Biennale, director of the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, commissioner for FIAC , team leader for the opening preparation of the Jeju Provincial Art Museum, commissioner for the Munster International Sculpture Symposium, and director of the Gwangju Biennale Corporation. He is a member of the International Association of Art Critics and serves as the president of the Korean Society of Art History. Currently, he is a professor at the College of Fine Arts, Chung-Ang University. He has authored and translated (Hankil Publishing).

She is interested in the interaction between artists and viewers in the process of creating and appreciating photographic images. Under the motto that everything caught by the human eye is the source of joy, she actively engages as a theorist in infusing artistic value into various photographs.

Captivated by the pure visual pleasure that can be experienced through light, she has been taking photographs since childhood. She became the first in Korea to obtain a Ph.D. related to photographic theory by combining the interdisciplinary fields of psychology and photographic art.

Currently, as a professor, researcher, critic, exhibition planner, visual director, and more, she pours her passion into interpreting photography through psychological ideas.
