You HyunMi and Boundary of Dimension

  • "Something new and definitely beautiful" This is what I think of creative art.
People marvel that a very well-drawn picture is like a photo. Also, when they see a very beautiful photo, they say it's like a painting. Why is that? Anyway, if you combine these two, photography and painting, you would be able to find absolute beauty that everyone can empathize with, and I thought that might be what I'm longing for. So, I wanted to create a picture-like photo or a photo-like picture If you add one more sculpture to it... Thus, my work was born.
My work is to install an object or sculpture that resembles a daily object in the internal space of reality and paint on it like a painting. Give bright and dark contrasts, draw shadows and light. And it is completed by taking a photo. It takes as short as 12 months and as long as 78 months to complete a work. Even if there is a completed work in my head, the image changes hundreds of times during the process of working. It changes very little, but it's a necessary process. The result is a single photo, but there are hundreds of shots during the work. First, check the composition of the objects in the screen dozens of times, and once the objects are colored, take an intermediate shot to see the result, and adjust the color, saturation, brightness, and the depth and blur of the shadows. There are several sets prepared in my studio. If you concentrate on one work, the image becomes familiar to your eyes and sometimes it doesn't get resolved. When such work occurs, I sometimes boldly move to another set. This is because while working on another set, these unresolved works are often resolved. My photos, which are completed using extremely analog and traditional methods of art without image transformation through computer graphics, accumulate actions and processes related to various media such as architecture, sculpture, painting, photography, and video. A series of works that are completed in this way are completed as photos with ambiguous boundaries between dreams and reality, showing illusions that cross genres while going through the process of sculpture, painting, and photography. The ambiguous sense of boundary created by the dimensions of 2D and 3D, dreams and dimensions and reality, and the dimensions between art genres provides a different visual play that feels different depending on the appreciation, which seems to be caught but not caught.
